Beam weapons are, usually, the primary armament of any starship.  Each Technology Level of Beam Weaponry increases abeam emplacement's firepower by 5%.

The overall firepower of a beam weapon is equal to the square root of its mass, multiplied by its size bonus, technology bonus, and any other modifications.

The range of a beam weapon can be altered up or down by two ranges (e.g. Point Blank to Medium).  Below are the modifications made to alter a weapon's range:

Beam Weapons can also be emplaced in multiple mounts.  Multiple-mount weapons have less mass than individual weapons (a twin mount masses less than 2 single mounts), but have a higher cost.  There is no limit to the number of mounts, but they get EXTREMELY expensive.  There are races who mount weapons with 150 or more emitters, who's ships cost 5 or 6 times the cost of an equivalent sized ship mounting single mounts.  So there are advantages and disadvantages.

Smaller weapons can also be used to shoot down incoming torpedoes.  Any beam emplacement of medium size or smaller can be used in a point defence role against torpedoes, but cannot be used offensively in the same combat round.

Pulse weapons are less common than standard beam weapons, but are still used by dozens of races. Pulse weapons can have a rate of fire between 2 and 6 per combat round. The maximum rate of fire is determined by the technology level (e.g. a Pulse Weapon with a technology level of 3 can have a maximum rate of fire of 4 per combat round. The higher the rate of fire, the lower the individual shot yield, and higher the cost.

The range of a pulse weapon cannot be modified like a beam weapon.

Pulse weapons can be emplaced in multiple mounts, and used in a point defence role against incoming torpedoes.

Pulse weapons have a lower damage output than beam weapons when firing through an atmosphere (planetary bombardment).

Torpedoes are the heavy armament of most starships.  Torpedoes have a higher strength per mass ratio than beam or pulse weapons, but are considerably more expensive, and require ammunition.  They are also far more powerful in the planetary bombardment role.

Torpedo launchers come in the following types:

In addition, launchers come in size ranges.  The ranges are Micro, Light, Medium, Heavy, Mega, Strategic Bombardment.

Micro, Mega, and Strategic Bombardment can not be used in Burst-Fire mode.

Torpedo warheads come in 13 types. These types are, in order of lowest to highest yield: Fusion, Advanced Fusion, Ion, Early Photon, Photon, Improved Photon, Advanced Photon, Quantum, Gravitic, Early Plasma, Plasma, Improved Plasma, and Advanced Plasma.
